"That's a fascinating idiom, isn't it? Moved", he commented. "When we're moved, something deep inside us is dislodged from the status quo and put into motion. A new e-motion stirs in is, shifting us from apathy (no feeling) to empathy and passion (deep, compelling feeling). We move from inaction to action." |

Together they reflected on the positive changes that have happened in our world - the end of the slave trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, the fall of South African apartheid in the 20th century, for example. These changes were the result of spiritual and social movements, each of which began and grew through individuals being moved. An invisible shift deep within was required before there could be a visible shift in society. Hundreds of thousands of quiet changes of heart finally expressed themselves in powerful movements that changed history. "We need a new movement to address the crises facing our world today - crises of prosperity, equity, security, and spirituality," McLaren said. "And this exhibit can help move people, help fuel a spiritual movement - the kind that can move mountains." In Everything Must Change, McLaren's recent book, he explains: "Jesus is not interested in the geographical rearrangements of mountains. It is the societal map of greed, lust, arrogance, fear, racism, domination, oppression, revenge, and injustice that he wants to redraw. He wants his disciples to move mountains of injustice and make new rivers of creativity and compassion flow..." Brian and Linnea trust that you will find this artwork a catalyst for a deep shift within, that you will be truly moved, and that through you, through all of us, a powerful movement of hope can be born.
